It's always tough to decide who is working for the breeding program and who's not. Our Dexter breeding efforts are focused on creating excellent milkers. I've worked with Fern from November 2021 to March 2023 trying to get her to allow the touching required for milking. She has made it clear that she is a "no touch me" cow. She really doesn't even care for petting.
I’ve got too many girls with the “I’m a big dog” personality to fight a “no touch me” heifer trying to make her into something that doesn’t come naturally. I feel 100% confident she will absolutely thrive in a beef herd and to that end... we sent her to a beef-focused farm where she can be her best self.
