Overheating in Summer

Keeping your Guinea Hogs cool...

Although they are a landrace breed native to the Southeastern United States, the extreme heat of summer can still be challenging for American Guinea Hogs.  If you don't have a pond they can submerge in, it is a good idea to give your AGH a place to wallow in the mud.  Mud is especially helpful.  Not only does it help keep them cooler, it also helps keep the insects away.

If you don't have mud available, even a kiddy pool (or in this case, a trough that split in negative 7-degree winter temperatures) will work perfectly to keep your AGH cool in the summer.

Plus, it will make your pigs happy 😊
