Did You Know? Dexter Calves Are Born With Teeth 🐮✨

Red Dexter calf Ember lying in the grass at Mountain Heritage Farm, showing her baby teeth and underbite — a common trait in young Dexter milk cows.

Here’s a fun fact you might not know about Dexter calves: they’re born with a full set of baby teeth!

Because young calves also have a natural underbite (which corrects itself as they grow), you’ll often catch them looking a little goofy in those early days. Ember, Sapphire’s new red heifer, gave us the perfect example — flashing her tiny tooth in the pasture like she’s showing off a smile.

These quirks are part of what makes raising Dexter milk cows so much fun. Every stage has its own surprises, from those first wobbly steps to the silly grins that remind us just how unique and full of personality each calf can be.
