Meet Our New Dexter Calf — Sue + Baloo

🎥 Tom at his mid-day feeding — nothing makes him happier than his bottle.

Two weeks ago, Sue — one of my best milkers — delivered a healthy black bull calf sired by Baloo. I’ve named him Tom (as in tomahawk steak 😜).

Instead of nursing, Tom is being bucket-fed milk replacer three times a day, which means he lives in the chicken yard rather than the pasture with his dam. The hens don’t seem to mind the extra company, and Tom is already learning that dinner time is the best time of day.

Tom will eventually be steered, but for now, he’s the star of the chicken yard — bouncing around between feedings and charming anyone who comes by. I’ll keep sharing updates as he grows.
